Please note: it is a requirement of this course that practical demonstration of CPR must be performed on the floor.

This course includes:

  • Airway Management – Asthma, Choking, Severe Allergic Reaction, Hyperventilation
  • Cardiac Emergencies
  • Seizures and Convulsions

  • Extremes of Heat and Cold
  • Musculoskeletal Injuries
  • Poisons and Toxic Substances
  • Bites and Stings
  • Abdominal injuries

Re-certification:
The recommended industry standard to maintain current competency is for this course to be refreshed every 3 years with the CPR component being updated every 12 months.

Assessment:
Students will be assessed through the demonstration of practical skills, participation in role plays, analysis of case studies and a written quiz.

Outcome:
On successful completion, you will be issued with the nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for HLTAID003 Provide first aid.

COURSE DETAILS

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty.

The unit applies to all workers who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

It is recommended that this unit of competency be updated every 3 years.

COURSE DELIVERY

This course is delivered as either face-to-face or distance and includes a blend of theory and practical assessments.

Face-to-face training is delivered over two days (5.5 hours per day) and the assessment booklet will be completed in class.

It is suggested that students do 7 hours of independent study.

Distance training is a combination of face-to-face practical simulations and unsupervised theory work. The face-to-face component is delivered over one day (7 hours) and it is a requirement that the assessment booklet be completed before the training day.

It is suggested that students do 11 hours of independent study.
