Start your career in Early Childhood Education and Care with a Certificate III, the minimum requirement for employment in the Early Childhood Education sector.

Working with children brings something new and different every day. Research tells us that the early years are the most important for a child’s growth and development. If you make a difference in a child’s early years then you make a difference for life.

Successful completion of this course requires 120 hours of work placement.

 


Childhood educators:

  • Provides care and supervision for children in programs, such as long day care and occasional care, in childcare centres, and educational centres by:
    • assisting in the preparation of materials and equipment for children’s education and recreational activities
    • managing children’s behaviour and guiding children’s social development
    • preparing and conducting activities for children
    • entertaining children by reading and playing games
    • supervising children in recreational activities
    • supervising the daily routine of children
    • supervising the hygiene of children

EMPLOYMENT PATHWAYS

Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC30113) is an introductory course to the education industry.

Employment pathways from this qualification can include Early Childhood Educator Assistant, Outside School Hours Aid, Family Day Care Worker, Preschool Assistant, Nanny or Playgroup Supervisor.

COURSE DETAILS

This qualification reflects the role of workers in a range of early  childhood education settings who work within the requirements of the Education and Care Services National Regulations and the National  Quality Standard.
They support the implementation of an approved learning framework, and support children’s wellbeing, learning and development.  Depending on the setting, educators may work under direct  supervision or autonomously.

This qualification pathways to Diploma of Early Childhood Education  and Care (CHC50113).

COURSE DELIVERY

This course is offered as either face-to-face or distance.

Face-to-face training is delivered two days per week (5.5 hours per day) for 18 weeks or two nights per week (2.75 hours per night) for 36 weeks.

It is suggested that a new entrant into the industry do 13 hours of independent study per week plus an additional 1 day per week of LLN support if required (over 9-12 months); whereas a skilled learner is suggested to do 10 hours of independent study per week (over 9-12 months).

Distance training is self-paced, which means students are welcome to complete the course as fast as they like. However, we recommend completing one to two units per month to complete within the 12 month time limit. No classroom training or attendance is required. It is suggested that students allow at least 20 hours per week of independent study to complete the course.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

It is a requirement of this qualification that you complete 120 hours of work placement, which we organise for you with one of our partner organisations.

It is mandatory that you are able to gain a Working With Children Check (e.g. a Queensland Blue Card) and complete first aid training (HLTAID004 Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting) before commencing work placement.
